My wife is an excellent wife. Dinner is always ready promptly, the kids are well managed, and overall I am a happy man. Now before everyone starts yelling, my wife is very happy with her life. She has everything she needs and she doesn’t have to work a job.

Now, I am not saying that women are unable to do work as well as a man. There are some industries that benefit greatly from women. But the computer industry is not one of them.

Women are followers. It is not that they are not as intelligent as men, they just take longer to reach the same level. For example, a woman working in the 1920’s would not have been able to handle the telephone industry, it was brand new. But a woman working today could easily handle that industry because they have had the time they need to catch up.

The computer industry is new, and women are not quite there yet. And I have two great examples to prove it.

The first is my previously mentioned wife, whom I have already said is an excellent person. But my wife cannot handle technology. The other day she asked to use my laptop, which is an HP Compaq 6710B. Now my wife is not a stupid person. She is among the more intelligent of her gender. Most of the time, she can use the basic functions of a computer without any problem. But the other day, my 6710B broke down while she was using it. Now, I have since checked it. There was a motherboard issue that was not her fault. But she thought it was, and she also thought she could fix it. She should have known to wait until I got home (I am a computer technician for a living). But she got out the tools and started digging around. What was once an easy fix is now going to take hours of work.

For those of you who think this singular example isn’t enough, here is another. As I said before, I am a computer technician. There is one female working at my company (as a tech, we have other female secretaries and accountants. They do their jobs well). Again, this female tech is not a dumb person. In addition, she went to school to learn about being a tech.

We were working on the HP Compaq 6710B. This is the same model that I have at home. It is a really good one and I got it for a good price. Anyway, we were repairing a damaged motherboard that needed to be replaced. She was in charge of diagnosing and ordering the part. I was in charge of installation. So when the part came, I went to install it. She had ordered the desktop motherboard part! Now I am not a hard man and I allow for simple mistakes. But when I went to her with the problem, she was sure that it was the correct part because the numbers matched her data list. Obviously the part was mislabeled, but if she had just looked at the picture, she would have been able to tell it was the wrong part. Or at least I would have known. As if that wasn’t enough, this problem or something similar to it has happened at least ten times!

This is proof that women, while on their way to learning the computer industry, have not yet reached the ability to perform this job efficiently and effectively. If they were, we would not have so much trouble when it comes to the HP Compaq 6710B (I reference this because it is a very popular item, and I am still mad about the customers I have lost due to this female employee). Be patient ladies, your time will come. For now just leave it to the professionals.
